Well, if you’ve been following along my treadmill review blog you’ll know that most of the Smooth Fitness treadmills I’ve reviewed have earned stellar ratings. Today, I will be breaking that trend and reviewing one of the more disappointing Smooth Fitness treadmills in Smooth’s treadmill lineup. That treadmill is triple X..

The triple X. retails for about $1700 and having sold and Bill treadmills for over half a decade now I exactly what to expect in every price range. The reason why I’m so hard on this treadmill is that it has not met what I would consider minimum expectations for a treadmill this expensive. Take for example the running area. You get a 20″ x 54″ running area and if this were a $1200 or a $1300 that might suffice. But, this is a much more extensive treadmill. This treadmill should have a full sized running area of 20″ x 60″! Anything less for the amount of money Smooth Fitness expects you to pay for the triple X. in your getting ripped off, especially when there are better treadmills out there that cost the same amount of money.

Reading area is not the only category I find the triple X. to be deficient in. You get a 2.7 HP motor and I would really like to see a 3.0 HP motor. Granted, most people will not need the extra durability provided by a 3.0 HP motor, but, some might. Once again there are several other treadmills in this price range that offer a full 3.0 HP motor.

The cherry on top of everything that I’ve already talked about is there a feature on a less expensive Smooth Fitness treadmill that is not included on the significantly more expensive triple X.. That feature enables users to wave their hand back and forth to control the speed of the treadmill. While this is more a gimmick then the utilitarian feature is honestly the coolest gimmick I have ever seen in a treadmill in all my years of the fitness industry!

Final Analysis
Well, I think you pretty much know what I’m going to say here. The bottom line is you can get a lot more treadmill for the same amount of money if you go with a brand like Sole Fitness and get a whole lot more for your money if you check out a brand like Star Trac. (You will have to spend a little bit more money for Star Trac unit though.) Ultimately the choice is yours, and I hope you make a wise decision.
