Well, things are finally winding down for school. I have my last final exam on Monday immediately followed by a three week vacation from work and school. This is probably going to be my last post for about a week. I have decided pursue a couple other writing projects and finish reading a couple books I have been meaning to read after the madness of finals week ends. I suppose I’ll get right into this review so I can get back to studying.

Every year or two treadmill manufacturers will update their fitness equipment. Most of the time this just means a few cosmetic changes, new paint color, more futuristic looking console, something like that. Better fitness equipment manufacturers will see this as an opportunity to improve the performance of their fitness equipment. To that end Smooth Fitness has made a marked improvement in quality and features on the Smooth 5.65 Treadmill over the Smooth 5.45 Treadmill, the model the Smooth 5.65 Treadmill is replacing.

I’ve been meaning to write a post on the importance of fitness programs. Fitness programs are great for somebody starting a fitness routine for the first time. The older version of the Smooth 5.65 Treadmill had about five or six programs. The Smooth 5.65 Treadmill has 14! Among the improvements are a custom workout setting where you can create and save a preset workout. This is a particularly useful feature for people who know exactly what they want and what they are doing. Like its predecessor, the Smooth 5.65 Treadmill is equipped with heart rate control. Heart rate control allows users to control speed and incline by their own heart rate. If your heart rate is too low the computer will automatically adjust the speed to keep your heart rate up. If your heart rate is too high a computer will lower the speed to keep your heart rate within the desired range.

One of my big complaints about the Smooth 5.65 Treadmill predecessor was that it had a 20″ x 54″ running surface. This problem has been rectified and I’m happy to say that the Smooth 5.65 Treadmill has a full 55 inches of running area. I really don’t know why Smooth Fitness decided to go with a slightly abridged running area, but I’m glad they finally fixed that problem!

Another useful upgrade is the console and control scheme. The console seems much easier to read with a larger and brighter display. There are also dedicated keys for speed so you don’t have to hold down a button when you’re trying to slow down after an intense sprint on treadmill. Another excellent feature I really like the built-in speed and incline controls on the handles. You never know when you’ll need to adjust the speed in a hurry and it’s nice to have another access point on the treadmill. Perhaps my favorite new feature of the Smooth 5.65 Treadmill is the built-in heart rate chart. It lets you know what you’re recommended heart rate is so you can always stay in your ideal heart rate range.

The Smooth 5.45 Treadmill was already one of my favorite treadmills out there and the upgrades made to the Smooth 5.65 Treadmill make this an even better buy. Smooth Fitness has done an excellent job at refining and already excellent treadmill and has earned a perfect score for features, motor power, and an industry best in class II year parts and labor warranty! If you are shopping for a treadmill was in the thousand dollar price range this is definitely the treadmill to get! I can’t think of anything better in all my years of the fitness equipment industry.
