If you have read more than a couple of my treadmill reviews you will know that I think of Smooth Fitness in the highest terms. Smooth Fitness makes some of the best treadmills out there and for the past several years the quality of Smooth Fitness fitness equipment has never been in question. Unfortunately, one of the problems with being one of the best treadmill manufacturers in the world is hitting a glass ceiling. Other treadmill companies try to get away with selling you subpar equipment for a lot of money. Smooth Fitness on the other hand tries to pack as much value into a treadmill as the price point will allow. The Smooth 7.35 Treadmill is a great example of the value Smooth Fitness can deliver to consumers. Unfortunately, when you put high end features and quality parts in your low to midrange priced treadmills your more expensive treadmill models will not look as stellar compared to the other treadmills in your lineup that cost less. The Smooth 7.35 Treadmill is a prime example of a treadmill manufacturer becoming a victim of its own success.
The Smooth 7.35 Treadmill has a 3.0 hp motor and a five-year parts and a two-year labor warranty. If I saw these specs on a much less expensive treadmill I would say the specs are very impressive! As a matter of fact I did see these specs on a less expensive treadmill, the Smooth 6.75 Treadmill to be exact and I did say it was an excellent treadmill. How could Smooth Fitness improve on the Smooth 7.35 Treadmill? Smooth Fitness decided to pack nearly double the amount of fitness programs onto the Smooth 7.35 Treadmill and add a slightly longer running surface. (The Smooth 6.75 Treadmill has a 20” x 60” running area; the Smooth 7.335 Treadmill has a 20″ x 62″ running area.) To be perfectly honest Smooth Fitness did not go nearly far enough in differentiating the Smooth 6.75 Treadmill from the Smooth 7.35 Treadmill to justify charging nearly $200 more for the Smooth 6.75 Treadmill.
To cap everything off you get a much lower 11.3 mile tour hour top speed. This is extremely disappointing to me. Smooth Fitness expects you to pay more money for a treadmill with a lower top speed? I can’t say an oversight like this is unheard of in my industry but this is a very serious oversight. For the most part, you are paying a lot for a little bit more.
Final Analysis
the Smooth 7.35 Treadmill has a couple advantages over the Smooth 6.75 Treadmill such as more programs and a slightly longer running surface. For most people these advantages are not nearly enough to justify the significantly higher price tag that comes along with the Smooth 6.75 Treadmill. There may be a couple tall people here and there that could really benefit from the extra running length, but if I were to play the odds you are probably not one of them. The top speed is much lower than other Smooth Fitness treadmills that retail for hundreds of dollars less than the Smooth 6.75 Treadmill. In the world of fitness equipment this is a grave sin! The quality of the Smooth 7.35 Treadmill is not in question in this treadmill review, it’s just too damn expensive for what you’re getting. I strongly recommend you do not buy the Smooth 7.35 Treadmill.
